Resolutions For 2017 — Q1 Update

Resolutions for 2017 - Q1 Update

The first quarter of the year has ended; it’s time to review and reflect how I’m doing on my 27 resolutions for the year.

To be honest, I’m not sure how I’m doing. I know some resolutions are lagging behind, while others are on track. But I’m looking forward to writing this journal-like article as I most likely discover a few new things about myself. And journaling is a great way for me to get a snapshot of how things are going, and what I’m struggling with now.

New Year Resolutions

I decided to color code my resolutions as I find it a lot easier to analyze and sort them by color. And in general, I love color-coding. It makes it much simpler to process the information.

  1. Open up on 100 days to E, my girlfriend. Open up = tell something that I find hard to say

  4. Cure my fear of rejection
  5. Ask random people until someone wants to take a fika with me

  7. Publish 4 e-books
  8. Hold 1 workshop

  19. Socialize one-on-one 20 of the weeks
  20. Run at least 46 of the weeks
  21. Exercise 20 times with Monkii Bars outside
  22. End my gym membership in January
  23. Complete the Wim Hof Method course
  24. Do a 30-day raw trial
  25. Get up at 6:30 am on 300 out of the 365 days
  26. Record a 1-second video every day
  27. Dive into the water from 5 meters

As you can see it’s quite easy to see, a lot of my resolutions are waiting for a condition to start. You also can decipher that there are alarming few resolutions that are on track, or ahead of time. It seems most are lagging behind.

To make it even simpler to see, I went on and created a sublist of every category below 😉

Completed

  1. End my gym membership in January

I don’t have much more to say here than I have completed one of my resolutions. Woohoo! \o/

Ahead

  1. Socialize at least 40 of the weeks
  2. Socialize one-on-one 20 of the weeks

These projects have been great for my social life. It’s easy to find at least one day per week to socialize in some way or another (I don’t include Toastmasters events).

Without these project, I would likely not take that small step to ask a friend if they would like to spend some time together.

These projects will move on to next year’s resolutions, albeit the goals might be slightly different.

On track

  1. Open up on 100 days to E, my girlfriend. Open up = tell something that I find hard to say
  2. Find a second partner. Partner = regularly kiss for a month
  3. Run at least 46 of the weeks
  4. Record a 1-second video every day

It seems that I’ve focused on my most important resolutions, as three out of my four focus goals are on track. It’s good to know that I’ve been focusing on the most important goals, as I only look at my resolutions maybe 1–3 times per month.

Open up to E. Opening up was challenging in the beginning, and it can still be. But I’ve found a way to present the information in a better way.

The hardest topics are poly related; it can be hard to say that I’m in love with S. Or that I miss her. I can easily write an article about this topic, so I’ll try to keep it short.

What I found was that if it’s a problem I have, I can frame it as a problem. That way E want to help me 🙂

But what if it isn’t a problem? Then I present it as no big deal, i.e., it’s nothing scary. If I stiffen up and act like it’is a big deal, the other person will think it’s a big deal. Acting as it’s nothing isn’t easy, but I’m getting better at it 🙂

Find a second partner. I haven’t found a second partner. But I have found a great potential match for a second partner 😀 She is awesome, and I would say I’m in love.

We haven’t been able to meet yet, as there’s a lot of things happening in her life. And I knew that when I started to converse with her. I’m quite comfortable waiting since it’s not that common to find someone like her 🙂

Running. Running is fun, and I have a streak of running once every week for eleven weeks now. I messed up the first week in January—I forgot about it xD. Then I got sick at the end of January. But I’m on track and even thinking about starting to run twice per week now that the weather is getting warmer.

Record a 1-second video every day. This resolution is the resolution that is the most fun to do. I’ve missed recording four days, but I guess that’s okay. I tend to miss recording on social gatherings because I’m focused on the people there, and not on my phone. One way to fix this would be to set the alarm to go off during the event.

Lagging Behind

  1. Go to 15 fikas with different people
  2. Publish 4 e-books
  3. Complete the Wim Hof Method course
  4. Get up at 6:30 am on 300 out of the 365 days

15 fikas. It started great; I was on two fikas in the first two weeks of January. Then two things happened.

I got a severe case of seasonal depression, which meant that all my energy went out the window. And I feel like I haven’t recovered fully yet, even though it’s been three months now.

The second thing was that I found a potential partner, so I lost interest in going to fikas with other people. Because why would I want to go and meet other people when I fell in love with someone already?

I’ve struggled a lot if I should continue and go to the fikas or not. The meaning of going to the fikas was to find a potential partner, and now that I’ve lost that desire I need to find some other purpose of those fikas.

Publish 4 e-books. I’ve put my e-book project on hold because I can only focus on my blog and one other product at a time. It’s way too much work focusing on multiple projects at the same time.

I’m not sure if I can finish four e-books by the end of the year, or if I even want to do that. I might change this goal to only publishing two e-books; but for now, I will leave it at four e-books.

Complete Wim Hof Method. I would love to do this, but at the same time, I’m not sure I can physically do this. My throat always gets sore a couple of weeks into the course (see Wim Hof Method — Dry Vocal Chords). One solution is to buy a vapor inhaler. I will probably start again after the summer—when the polling is gone—so this goal should be under waiting for conditions to start.

Get up at 6:30 am. Even though I’ve used 26 out of my 65 days already this year it feels like I’m on track. January was horrible; I used fifteen days there. Whereas in February I only used three days. And I used seven days in March.

For the rest of the year, I have four cheat days every month. It’s not many days, but I’m sure I will complete this goal.

Severely behind or not started

  1. Cure my fear of rejection
  2. Earn $3000 in one month
  3. Publish Voider
  4. Find a new way to contact business X to sell my app
  5. Have a threesome
  6. Find or start a personal development meetup

These are the project I’m struggling with most. I need to change something if I’m going to complete these resolutions before the end of the year.

Cure my fear of rejection. As I’m writing this, I came up with a plan to progress with this goal.

  • I will use Art of Charm’s challenge to improve my social skills.
  • Then use my other resolution, ask random people until someone wants to take a fika with me, to conquer my fear of rejection.
  • But I’ll also use the Lefkoe Method method I covered in The Lies You Tell Yourself.

I might need encouragement from someone else when I’m out asking people if they want to take a fika. It would be awesome if E were with me 😀

Earn $3000 in one month. Making $3000 feels extremely challenging, mostly because I haven’t made any money yet. But at the same time, I’m soo close to making money that I can taste the money.

Once I figure out the formula and get the right mindset making money shouldn’t be a problem. I’m also joining a premium coaching club that costs $2000 per year, and I’m sure the club will help me make a living on my personal development business.

Publish Voider. I will abandon the goal of publishing Voider this year. There’s just not enough time to release Voider this year. I estimated that there are 3–6 months left of work before I can release the game. And I also decided to (for now) discontinue my game development business. I might continue with my game development later; most likely when I have money to create a whole team for that purpose.

Find a new way to contact business X to sell my app. The idea is to sell an app I developed specifically for their product. I also had the idea to join them in developing an official app. But for now, I’m not interested in working on anything else than my personal development business. I can still try to sell the app to them and see if they want it as it’s finished.

Have a threesome. I haven’t progressed on this goal at all. To be honest, I’m scared of having a threesome. Why? I feel like I need to be entirely comfortable with everyone involved. Like I need to have a deep relationship with them.

Hmm… It’s probably more that I need to feel comfortable making mistakes in front of everyone, as well as not feeling any pressure to perform. Having a threesome will be a great growth experience for me, and it’s something I’ve longed to have. So what can I do differently in the coming months to make progress on this goal?

I need to make a plan. And create multiple action steps for things that can bring me closer to having a threesome. Like identifying people that I might want to have a threesome. Then I discuss these with E. It would also be a good idea to figure out what kind of feeling I want the overall threesome to have, and things I would like to try.

Find or start a personal development meetup. Starting a group should be relatively easy to do. I’m not sure how often the meetups should occur; maybe every fortnight.

I also need to figure out a structure for the meetups. But I can do that together with the people in the group.

At the moment I don’t have time to create a group. But at the same time, I won’t have more time later on. So a good idea would be to start a meetup when I have my two-week vacation in April and May. At least I should have time then to plan everything.

Waiting for conditions to start

  1. Ask random people until someone wants to take a fika with me
  2. Hold 1 workshop
  3. Go on a shorter hike (2 or 3 days) with my partner
  4. Take part in a speaking contest
  5. Do 3 excursions to new places this summer with my partner
  6. Bike and see all the streets in Lund I haven’t been to yet
  7. Take part in the Berzerk obstacle race (8 km with 25 obstacles)
  8. Exercise 20 times with Monkii Bars outside
  9. Do a 30-day raw trial
  10. Dive into the water from 5 meters

I feel pretty confident that I will achieve these tasks. Some of them are harder than others, but they are still accomplishable. The most difficult ones will be to ask random people for a fika, hold 1 workshop, do a 30-day raw trial, and dive into the water from 5 meters. But as long as I create a plan for these, they should be doable.

Conclusion

All in all, I would say that my chances of completing the majority of my new year resolutions are good. 😀

But it was good that I took the time and wrote this update because now I can see where I need to put some extra attention. That is, the goals that are lagging behind and those that are severely behind. Later this week, I will journal and create an action plan for these resolutions. Creating an action plan should make it a lot easier to catch up.

Without an action plan, I’m almost sure I wouldn’t complete the resolutions. And it’s better to act now than to act when it’s only three months left.

What are your resolutions, or even goals at the moment? Are any one of those lagging behind? If so, what action plan can you create to get the goals on track again? What would your life look like if you accomplished those goals?
