Resolutions For 2017 — Q2.5 Update

New year resolutions for 2017, Q 2.5

The second update of how my resolutions are doing. It’s time to take a look at how my resolutions are doing 🙂

This article is mostly interesting if you want to see what goals I have and how I try to accomplish these resolutions; or to show you that I’m human and don’t complete all of my resolutions. The idea of my new year resolutions is, however, to accomplish as many as possible (if they’re still valid or congruent with what I want). If I only were to accomplish one new year resolution, that’s more than the majority of the population. So why not have many goals you find important or want to do?

  3. Go to 15 fikas with different people
  4. Cure my fear of rejection

  18. Socialize at least 40 of the weeks (26/40)
  19. Socialize one-on-one 20 of the weeks (14/20)
  20. Run at least 46 of the weeks (missed 4 weeks, 2 misses left)
  21. Exercise 20 times with Monkii Bars outside
  22. End my gym membership in January
  23. Complete the Wim Hof Method course
  24. Do a 30-day raw trial
  25. Get up at 6:30 am on 300 225 out of the 365 days
  26. Record a 1-second video every day
  27. Dive into the water from 5 meters

As you can see, there’s a lot of red in there, both as in lagging severely behind and aborted or failed.

Next, I’ll go through each category and for items that for a reason are lagging behind, I’ll create a tactic or strategy if I want to complete them on time.

Completed

  1. Go on a shorter hike (2 or 3 days) with my partner
  2. Find or start a personal development meetup
  3. End my gym membership in January
  4. Do a 30-day raw trial

Not much to say, other than I’ve completed 4 out of my new year resolutions. Woohoo! 😀

I only did a 20-day raw vegan trial, but the goal was to try, and I made the right choice to abort the challenge after 20 days 🙂

Aborted or Failed

  1. Find a second partner. Partner = regularly kiss for a month —> Find a new close friend
  2. Go to 15 fikas with different people
  3. Cure my fear of rejection
  4. Ask random people until someone wants to take a fika with me —> Have a conversation with at least two (new) guests on Toastmasters every meeting
  5. Publish Voider
  6. Take part in the Berzerk obstacle race (8 km with 25 obstacles)
  7. Get up at 6:30 am on 300 225 out of the 365 days

If we start at 4: ask random people until someone wants to take a fika with me. I found in Use Your Fear To Take Action On Something Else that I don’t want or need to be able to strike up a conversation with a stranger. It’s smarter to practice striking up a conversation in natural settings, such as on Toastmasters. Thus, I decided to change the goal to

Have a conversation with at least two people on Toastmasters (and other events) every meeting, preferably two I haven’t spoken to before.

When I found out that I didn’t have to strike up a conversation with a stranger, I started thinking about my reasons why I want to find a second partner. That topic in itself is a whole article; the summary, however, is that I want closer more intimate and open friends. Intimate doesn’t have to mean sexual in any sense.

Thus, I don’t have to cure my fear of rejection as

You don’t have to challenge every one of your fears.

I decided against doing the Berzerk obstacle race this year. Both since next year will be my year of exercise, but also because I haven’t gotten my Monkii Bars 2 and I wanted to prepare for the Berzerk with these.

Finally, after my raw vegan trial, I lost all my energy and my habit of getting up at 6:30 am. So for about two and a half months, I’ve been unable to get up early except on a few days now and then. Instead of failing the entire challenge, I decided to make it 250 days but had to change it to 225 days the month after. And even if I ‘only’ get up at 6:30 am 225 of the days, that’s still two out of three days 🙂

Ahead

  1. Socialize one-on-one 20 of the weeks (14/20)

Nothing to say rather than to keep going at the same pace 🙂

On track

  1. Have a conversation with at least two (new) guests on Toastmasters every meeting
  2. Socialize at least 40 of the weeks (26/40)
  3. Run at least 46 of the weeks (missed 4 weeks, 2 misses left)
  4. Record a 1-second video every day

The addition here having a conversation with at least two (new) guests on Toastmasters every meeting. As I explained in the ‘aborted or failed’ section, this isn’t only for Toastmasters events and preferably two people I haven’t spoken to before. I will fail this if I’m at a meeting and don’t do this, but I’m allowed to cheat once 🙂

Otherwise, keep going at the same speed 🙂

Lagging behind

  1. Open up on 100 days to E, my girlfriend. Open up = tell something that I find hard to say (45/100)
  2. Find a new close friend
  3. Do 3 excursions to new places this summer with my partner (2/3)
  4. Complete the Wim Hof Method course
  5. Dive into the water from 5 meters

I’ve found a new way to open up to E, asking for advice on struggles I’m facing. I’m not sure why I haven’t asked for advice before on various things, maybe because I tend to think a lot to myself and journal to find answers. I can see that the reason I’m asking for help more now is thanks to the mastermind group I’m in 🙂

Find a new close friend is a converted goal from finding a second partner. My primary strategy is to talk to people at events, and maybe use Tinder if I feel like it. I have found new friends on Tinder before, even though it’s not the optimal place for finding friends, but it’s a place 🙂

The summer is almost over, and my girlfriend and I have only been to two new places so far. The next step is finding a weekend with beautiful weather so we can go out on an excursion 🙂

Since I just started The Miracle Morning, I don’t know how to incorporate the Wim Hof Method into the Miracle Morning in a practical way without having it take up another hour of my morning. One thing I must do, however, is to buy a vapor-inhalator, so my vocal chords don’t dry out from all the breathing exercises. The program takes ten weeks (optimal speed) but might take longer. A good time to start would be on Monday, the second of October. That will give me some extra time before the end of the year, and it’s also around then I need the energy the most 🙂

Every time I’ve been to a bath house (3 times this year), the jumping area has always been closed. Talk about bad luck, so I’ve decided to go there in September and try to jump from 5 meters. But my goal is only to learn how to jump from 3 meters, and then maybe jump from 5 meters in October 🙂

Severely behind or not started

  1. Earn $3000 in one month
  2. Publish 1 ebook
  3. Hold 1 workshop
  4. Find a new way to contact business X to sell my app
  5. Have a threesome
  6. Bike and see all the streets in Lund I haven’t been to yet (15%)
  7. Get up at 6:30 am on 300 225 out of the 365 days

Earning money is my biggest obstacle yet. Most of it is mental; I find it hard to ask for money or to want to get paid. But I have a plan, I plan to start coaching at the moment, and I’ve hired a business coach to help me get an income from this business. So I’m hopeful this will still have come true by the end of the year 🙂

Publishing one ebook will be hard, especially since I don’t know whether that will be in the business plan or not to do this year. Likewise holding a workshop will probably not be in the business plan this year, especially not since the workshop will likely be created from the book.

Maybe I can try to find a way to contact company X to sell my app. Something tells me I should focus my energy somewhere else though. But I’m not sure if it’s because of fear or if I’ve already let that project go.

Having a threesome ultimately boils down to opening up and being vulnerable and at the same time being confident in myself and that everything’s okay. I’m not sure if this would be easier if I had sex with someone else than my girlfriend before, or if it’s going to be easier with my girlfriend there as support. It’s still something I want to try, maybe not because of the reason I had at the start of the year, but because I want to get close to two people.

Bike and see all the streets in Lund. I thought I would do this during the summer because I find it fun and relaxing. But I’ve had an almost entirely scheduled vacation, and during the free days, there weren’t many sunny and warm days. Sure, I could’ve taken the bike on those not so sunny days and forced myself outside. But the point with the resolution was to remind me of taking the bike and cycling around when the weather is nice since I like doing that, and not to force myself go outside.

At the moment, I have 27 days I can skip getting up to finish at getting up 225 out of the 365 days. That should be doable, especially now with The Miracle Morning which makes the mornings easy and fun 🙂

Waiting for conditions to start

  1. Take part in a speaking contest
  2. Exercise 20 times with Monkii Bars outside

A speaking contest will be held in end of August 🙂

I’m not sure I’ll be able to have the time to exercise with the Monkii Bars outside this year, that depends on when I’ll get them. New estimated time of arrival is late September. What I wanted to do was to exercise outside when it was warm and nice outside spontaneously. But I’ll see what I can do when the Monkii Bars arrive 🙂

Conclusion

Of all the 27 resolutions, I’m behind of the most important (bolded) ones. If there are any resolutions I should focus on, it’s these. To do that I’ve added a reminder every other Sunday to review how my resolutions are going and if I’m working (enough) on my priority goals.

But I’m glad I’ve completed four of my goals, and on a good way to complete five more 🙂

This will be the last “quarterly” review before the final review at the end of the year.

What would you like to see more of?

I feel that these kinds of articles are more useful to me than maybe my readers? Do you agree? Is there a better way I can structure and do these reviews to be useful, or should I do them in private and only once a year? If you have any ideas or thoughts, please comment below 🙂
